The Puppy You've
Been Waiting For.
If you’re in that spot right now—debating whether a Cavapoo is right for you, wondering where to find a reputable breeder, or just trying to picture life with one of these fluffy little comedians—grab a coffee, and let’s chat.
Cavapoos have that perfect mix of playfulness and calm. They’re affectionate, smart, and tend to be hypoallergenic, making them a great choice for people with mild allergies. Plus, their size is ideal—not too big, not too tiny. Most Cavapoos weigh between 9-20 pounds, which means they can curl up on your lap without smothering you but still have enough energy for playtime.
And let’s talk about their personality. Ever met a dog that looks like they understand your soul? That’s a Cavapoo. They’ll tilt their head just so when you’re talking, like they’re hanging on your every word. They love their people so much that they’re often called “velcro dogs.” If you’re looking for an independent pup who won’t follow you from room to room, this isn’t the breed for you. But if you love the idea of a four-legged best friend who always wants to be by your side, then keep reading.
If you’ve already Googled Cavapoo near me, you’ve probably seen all kinds of listings—breeders, shelters, subpar kennels (yikes), and rehoming ads. It’s overwhelming, right? So, how do you find a reputable breeder and avoid heartbreak?
There’s a huge difference between a subpar kennel and an ethical breeder. Ethical breeders prioritize health, temperament, and socialization, while subpar kennels are all about making quick money. Here at Storytail Dogs, we take puppy matching seriously, using temperament testing to ensure that each family gets the right fit. We start early socialization, exposing our pups to different sounds, textures, and experiences so they grow into confident, well-adjusted dogs.
Some breeders look legit but aren’t. A few warning signs to keep in mind:
🚩 They always have puppies available. Ethical breeders have waitlists because they don’t mass-produce puppies.
🚩 No health testing. A responsible breeder will do genetic testing on the parents to avoid passing down health issues.
🚩 No in-person visits. If they won’t let you meet the puppies (even over video), something’s off.
If you’re open to adopting, check out local rescues like Cavalier Rescue USA or Petfinder. While it’s rare to find a young Cavapoo in a shelter, it’s not impossible. Just be ready to move fast if you see one available!
Let’s be real—bringing home a puppy is equal parts exciting and exhausting. Cavapoos are incredibly people-oriented, so don’t be surprised if they cry the first few nights. They’re used to being surrounded by littermates, so suddenly sleeping alone is a big adjustment.
Cavapoos are smart, but potty training still takes patience and consistency. A good breeder will start early potty training, but you’ll need to reinforce it. Pro tip: Use a consistent potty schedule and lots of praise when they get it right. And if there’s an accident? Take a deep breath—it happens.
Nope! Cavapoos aren’t high-energy dogs, but they do get the zoomies (trust me, it’s hilarious). A few short walks and some playtime in the house are usually enough. If you have a backyard or even just a decent-sized living room, they’ll be happy.
Before you fall head over heels for those puppy-dog eyes, ask yourself:
✔️ Do I want a loving, people-oriented dog?
✔️ Am I okay with a pup that follows me everywhere?
✔️ Can I commit to grooming every 4-6 weeks? (Cavapoos have wavy, non-shedding coats that need regular trims!)
✔️ Do I have time for training and socialization in the first year?
If you’re nodding along, a Cavapoo might be the perfect match for you.
