The Puppy You've
Been Waiting For.
Let’s talk about the Teacup Cavapoo—what they’re like, how they compare to regular Cavapoos, what you should consider before bringing one home, and whether they’re truly the best fit for your family.
Because let’s be honest, tiny dogs are adorable, but they do come with unique challenges. And while a Teacup Cavapoo might seem like the ultimate snuggle buddy (and spoiler alert: they totally are), there are some important things you need to know before bringing one into your home.
First things first: What exactly is a Teacup Cavapoo?
A Teacup Cavapoo is an extra-small version of the Cavapoo, a designer breed that combines a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel and a Poodle. Regular Cavapoos come in Toy and Miniature sizes, but Teacup Cavapoos are bred to be even smaller—often under 10 pounds fully grown.
Breeders create these tiny pups by:
✔️ Selecting the smallest Toy Cavapoos and breeding them together.
✔️ Introducing a smaller breed like a Teacup Poodle into the bloodline.
✔️ Using careful, ethical breeding techniques to ensure health and longevity.
The result? A tiny, fluffy, teddy-bear-like dog that fits perfectly in your arms (or a designer tote bag, if that’s your thing).
If you’re hoping your puppy stays tiny forever, you’re in luck. A Teacup Cavapoo full-grown remains small—think cat-sized, but way more affectionate.
For comparison:
🐶 Toy Cavapoo: 7-13 lbs, 9-12 inches tall
🐶 Mini Cavapoo: 13-25 lbs, 12-16 inches tall

📌 0-8 Weeks: Tiny but mighty. At this stage, they’re just little fluffballs learning to walk, eat, and interact.
📌 8-16 Weeks: Teacup Cavapoos are usually ready to go to their forever homes at 8-10 weeks. This is when socialization, potty training, and bonding are crucial.
📌 4-6 Months: The playful puppy stage! They’re energetic but still small enough to fit in your arms.
📌 8-12 Months: Most Teacup Cavapoos reach their full size by 10 months but may continue filling out until they’re a year old.
If you’ve ever met a Cavapoo, you already know what to expect—just in a more portable package.
🐾 Loving & Affectionate – These dogs are the definition of Velcro dogs. They’ll follow you everywhere (yes, even to the bathroom).
🐕 Moderate Energy – Despite their size, they still enjoy short daily walks and playtime.
🎓 Smart & Trainable – They inherit Poodle intelligence, making them quick learners.
🏡 Best for Indoors – Due to their tiny size, they thrive in apartments or houses with small yards.
They can be, but supervision is a must. Because of their tiny size, they’re more fragile than larger dogs. If you have young kids, it’s important to teach them how to handle a small dog safely.
While Teacup Cavapoos are adorable, their small size means they need extra care and attention.
Despite their small stature, they still need some daily exercise.
Teacup Cavapoos have soft, wavy, or curly coats that require regular maintenance.
✂️ Brushing 3-4 times a week to prevent tangles.
🛁 Bathing every 3-4 weeks to keep their coat fresh.
🐶 Professional grooming every 4-6 weeks is a must!
Because of their tiny size, Teacup Cavapoos need high-quality, small-breed dog food to maintain their health.
🥩 Look for protein-rich food.
🍽️ Avoid kibble that’s too big for their little mouths.
💧 Keep an eye on hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which can affect very small dogs.
Not all breeders are ethical, especially when it comes to extra-small dogs. Some prioritize size over health, leading to fragile puppies with health problems.
That’s why I always recommend working with an ethical breeder—someone who prioritizes health, temperament, and responsible breeding practices.
At Storytail Dogs, we specialize in matching puppies to the right families. We’re an ethical Cavapoo breeder in Pennsylvania (and an ethical Maltipoo breeder!) who raises puppies in a home environment, not a kennel. Our puppies are well-socialized, handled daily, and exposed to household noises, so they grow into confident, well-adjusted adults.
